Padel Racquet Weight Guide: How Heavy Should Your Racquet Be?

Racquet weight affects power, control, and arm fatigue. Learn how to choose the right weight for your level, playing style, and physical condition.

Why Weight Matters

The weight of your padel racquet is one of the most important specifications to get right. Too heavy and you will fatigue quickly, risking injury. Too light and you will lack power and stability on hard shots.

Weight Ranges

Light: 340–355g

  • Easier to maneuver
  • Less arm fatigue during long matches
  • Better for quick reactions at the net
  • Less power on overheads

Best for: Beginners, players with arm problems, players who play frequently (3+ times per week), and players who prioritize net play.

Medium: 355–370g

  • Good balance of power and control
  • Manageable for most fitness levels
  • Works for all playing styles

Best for: Most intermediate players. This is the “safe” range if you are unsure.

Heavy: 370–385g

  • Maximum power on drives and smashes
  • More stable on hard incoming shots
  • Greater vibration (more arm stress)
  • Slower to react at the net

Best for: Strong, experienced players who prioritize power and play predominantly from the back of the court.

How to Choose

Consider your level

  • Beginner: Start at 340–360g. You need to learn technique before adding weight.
  • Intermediate: 355–375g depending on your style.
  • Advanced: Personal preference, usually 360–385g.

Consider your playing frequency

If you play 4+ times per week, consider going lighter to reduce cumulative arm stress. Many professional players use lighter racquets than you might expect.

Consider your physical condition

  • Arm or elbow problems? Go lighter.
  • Strong upper body? You can handle more weight.
  • Recovering from injury? Drop 10–20g from your usual weight.

The Overgrip Factor

Adding an overgrip adds 5–8g. If your racquet is at the top of your ideal range, a fresh overgrip can push it over. Factor this into your decision.

Weight Distribution Matters Too

Two racquets at 360g can feel completely different based on balance:

  • Head-heavy 360g feels like a much heavier racquet
  • Handle-heavy 360g feels lighter and faster

Always consider weight AND balance together, not weight alone.

Test Before You Commit

The best way to find your ideal weight is to demo different racquets. Many clubs rent or lend racquets. Play a full match — not just a few hits — to really feel how the weight affects your game over time.
